The Portfolio

"Wolf Moon"

11 X11 inches

Wolves still run free in the north country

"Ivory in the Mist"

18.5 X10.5 inches

I join all who hope the Ivory-billed Woodpecker is still in the world.

.

"Pileated Fall"

17 X 24 inches

The male pileated woodpecker swoops in from an old oak behind my studio. He follows the same flight path, almost like a road through air and trees.

"Pileated Landing"

"Pileated Landing"

15 X 25 inches

The male pileated woodpecker trumpets a haunting, wild call ; flaring as he lands on the birch. The brilliance of this bird never fails to dazzle me.

"Loon Dreams"

"Loon Dreams"

9 x 12 inches

This is a Scandinavian inspired study, based on the beautiful feather pattern of a loon's neck; visible only when the bird is sleeping or preening on its nest

"Loons Dreaming"

"Loons Dreaming"

18 x 27 inches

I imaged the loons dreaming in a Norse myth within an ancient pattern known as asymetrical symetry.

"Spring Loons"

"Spring Loons"

14 x 24 inches

A maple branch outside my studio often finds its way into my paintings. Its leaves are red in the spring and fall. The loons are bunched, as if just after a loon dance. I aligned the pattern of the loons backs to make an overall design.

"Loon and the Moon"

"Loon and the Moon"

11 x 16 inches

Loons are the voice of wilderness in the North Country. At night their voices carry from lake to lake and distant loons answer. This abstract design is inspired by a Japanese woodblock print.

"Loon and the Wave"

"Loon and the Wave"

11 x 17 inches

When loons dance they churn the water in a brilliant performance. The first time I saw the dance, I thought of the famous Japanese wood block print, The Wave.

"Fall Loons"

"Fall Loons"

27 x 11 inches

Loons gather before migration and sometimes, they stay in the North Country beyond the first snow.
